DKIM Lookup

Check a domain's DKIM signature record.

Common selectors: default google selector1 selector2 dkim mail s1 s2 k1

With the DKIM lookup tool you can instantly check any domain's DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) record. DKIM is an email authentication method that adds a digital signature to outgoing messages, proving that they really come from the stated domain and were not changed in transit. A correctly configured DKIM record keeps your messages out of spam folders and makes your domain more trustworthy.

Once your DKIM record is checked, complete your email authentication with the SPF lookup and the DMARC lookup. If you would like these records set up properly on your business email, have a look at our Business Email and Exchange Mail plans or contact our support team.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about DKIM records and email security.

What is a DKIM record?

DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) is a DNS TXT record that, by adding a digital signature to outgoing messages, proves that they really come from the stated domain and were not changed in transit. The receiving server verifies the signature with the DKIM public key published in DNS.

What does DKIM do?

DKIM keeps your messages out of spam/junk folders, helps email providers treat your domain as trustworthy, blocks forgery attempts and protects your email reputation.

What is a DKIM selector?

A selector is the prefix used to find the DKIM record in DNS. The record is published as selector._domainkey.domain.com. Common selectors: default, google, selector1, selector2, dkim, mail, s1, k1.

How can I find my selector?

Open the headers of a message you received (in Gmail, Outlook and so on). In the “DKIM-Signature” line, the s= parameter shows your selector; for example s=google means the selector is “google”.

Should SPF, DKIM and DMARC be used together?

Yes. SPF lists the authorised servers, DKIM signs the message digitally and DMARC applies a policy based on the results of the two. Used together, they give the strongest email security.

What happens if I have no DKIM record?

Messages sent without DKIM may be treated as less trustworthy by receiving servers and are more likely to land in spam. Large providers such as Gmail and Outlook pay close attention to DKIM verification.

What does a “no DKIM record found” result mean?

It usually means the lookup used the wrong selector. Check the s= value in the header of a message you received and try again with that selector; if nothing is found with the right selector either, DKIM may not have been published yet.
